About Revolut Business
Revolut has operated in the UK for over 10 years as an Electronic Money Institute (EMI), however after obtaining its conditional banking licence in 2024 it received its full banking licence in March 2026 under the entity Revolut Bank UK Ltd. This evolution was driven by strategic, regulatory and financial motivations that allowed Revolut to reduce its reliance on partners, build new products and offer FSCS deposit protection. Revolut remains a private company with an anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2028.
Revolut business offers 4 bank accounts for limited companies, Basic, Grow, Scale and Enterprise, all compared at Know Your Business. If you’re a UK sole trader you’ll need to open a Revolut personal account and use their add on feature, Revolut Pro.

| Provider type | A fully licensed bank. Revolut Bank UK Ltd is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, firm reference number 981170. |---|---|
| Could be great for | Revolut Business suits many limited companies, but particularly those trading internationally has been their prominent service feature from inception. If you need support with outgoings, Revolut BillPay extracts payment details from your bills and invoices to schedule payments, and if you want merchant services to receive money they have online or in person merchant services ranging from iphone to terminal processing options. If you are a sole trader, you will need to open a personal account and add on Revolut Pro, which is free. |
| Currencies | Businesses can benefit from holding and exchanging in 25+ global currencies by providing local account details to bypass international clearing and charges giving a professional and easier path for your international partners. In addition you can automatically draw from existing balances or exchange as you pay in 150+ currencies. |
| Account opening (from a fully complete application) | Account opening is split into two phases. Applications are online and take around 10 minutes. The next phase is the review and approval time, which their standard turnaround time is often within 24 hours of receiving your completed application and documents. If your business has a simple ownership structure and up to date documentation this could be fast tracked to just a few hours. In some cases reviews can take up to 5 days. Its important to understand that these timescales only apply once Revolut is in receipt of everything they need to be able to review the application, and this can require some back and forth to get that all in place. To open an account on the UK platform, your company must be registered in the United Kingdom and provide standard on-boarding details, including a business description, intended use, government issued identification and proof of your operating address. Revolut does not perform full or hard credit searches for account opening. Soft searches are run for identity and fraud purposes only as Revolut does not directly offer lending, including overdrafts. |
| Deposit protection | Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) provides protection for deposits on new accounts with Revolut Bank UK Ltd, up to £120,000. Older Revolut accounts that remain under their EMI licence protect deposits via safeguarding. See our guide for more information. |
| Free account available? (free from monthly subscription fees) | Revolut Pro, the add on feature to a Revolut personal account for sole traders, is free. Each UK business bank account from Revolut has a monthly subscription charge, including the basic plan. |
| Sample costs (costs shown are part of a wider charging structure. Always check up to date information before proceeding) | Basic: £10 a month. Grow: £35 a month or £360 a year (£30 a month). Scale: £125 a month or £1,080 a year (£90 a month). Enterprise: Custom priced. Foreign exchange: Each plan includes a monthly allowance exchanged at the interbank rate of £1,000 on Basic, £15,000 on Grow and £60,000 on Scale, with Enterprise custom. Above the allowance the fee is 0.6%. A markup fee applies to exchanges made outside market hours on every plan. Transfers: Local UK transfers are included up to 10 a month on Basic, 100 on Grow and 1,000 on Scale, then £0.20 each over the included allowances. Grow includes five free international transfers a month and Scale includes 25, then £5 per transfer on both. Cards and cash: The first physical card is free on every plan. Suitability
Is Revolut Business good for business banking?
Yes, especially if you move money across borders. Revolut is built around holding, exchanging and sending currency but it also offers a comprehensive range of other features that businesses can benefit from, which will grow now that they have their full banking licence in the UK.
What Revolut does well
Accounts opened under Revolut Bank UK Ltd now sit under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) supporting up to a total of £120,000 on eligible deposits.
Currency handling is a core strength. The account holds 25+ currencies, exchanges at the interbank rate within a monthly allowance rather than at a marked up rate, and reaches more than 150 destinations.
Local account details in countries such as the United States, Australia, Singapore and France mean payments in those markets travel as domestic ones.
Spend controls are well supported with a Revolut Business Bank Account. You can set limits per card by day, week or month, restrict purchase categories, block ATM use and restrict which countries a card works in.
Approval workflows can be customised on the higher plans, expenses are captured by photo or email and receipts are read automatically to fill in amounts, dates and tax rates.
Who Revolut could suit
Revolut Business is there for limited companies that trade internationally and want the currency side to have multiple options to choose from for efficiency and cost savings. Other types of businesses it could suit are e-commerce and digital export businesses, tech start ups, digital agencies and consultancies, and companies with travelling staff or overseas offices.
Revolut Pro is suitable for sole traders. This simplified add on feature helps freelancers and any unregistered business manage their business finances with the personal account.
Who might need to look elsewhere
Sole traders cannot open a Revolut Business account. If you are not a registered business, you are directed to Revolut Pro which sits alongside the Revolut personal account as an add on, rather than a separate account.
Start with our sole trader business bank accounts and freelancer business bank accounts comparisons for more choice as a non registered business.
Charities, public sector organisations and cooperatives are also not eligible.
Revolut states business bank accounts cannot be used to process client money whatever your business type. Client money is a term used to describe when a business holds money on behalf of its customers and an example of a firm that holds client money would be a solicitor.
What Revolut doesn’t do
Whilst ATM cash withdrawal are available, there are no other cash or cheque handling solutions with a Revolut Business account.
The providers on our small business bank accounts comparison could provide alternative solutions for those businesses who handle cash regularly.
Revolut does not currently, directly lend and that includes overdrafts. Compare options on our business bank accounts with overdraft pages for providers who offer lending, but note that a full credit check will then be required on applications for credit.

Regulation and account protection
The regulation and fund protection a business account receives depends on whether the provider operates as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) or a Bank. Both are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), here is an overview of the key differences.
Electronic Money Institution (EMI)
Focused on transaction and payment management. The limited product range and online only service can translate to lower running costs, faster applications and niche, specialist features.
Protection
Safeguarding: Your money is ring-fenced in segregated accounts with tier-1 banks or backed by insurance.
Lending
No (cannot directly offer lending products, but some do via 3rd parties)
Good to know
- Some EMI’s offer products outside of their regulated status, via partnerships
- Most EMI’s only require soft searches for fraud and identity validation purposes
- Cannot legally call themselves a ‘bank’
- Cash deposits will be handled through partnerships, such as the Post Office or you will only be able to transfer funds in, from another account.
Bank
A provider regulated as a full bank will be able to offer a wide range of additional products and services. Including lending and cash deposits. Applications go through broader checks.
Protection
Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS): Eligible deposits up to £120,000 per business, per banking licence
Lending
Yes (eg. loans, overdrafts, credit cards)
Good to know
- Some newer banks do not have branches but can offer faster application processes than ‘traditional’ banks.
- A business account can be a gateway to products required for business growth
